Project: Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 – Bid Team
Client: Parramatta Connect (CPB & Downer)
Date: 2018 (Jan – Jun)

Locaters were engaged as a Subject Matter Expert to the CPB & Downer construction bid team for the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 tender to Transport for NSW.

As a technical consultant with 5 years worth of experience in Sydney’s Light Rail and other Tier 1 construction projects before it, we were able to contribute in the successful award of the project to CPB & Downer Joint Venture.

Providing to the construction team and their design consultancy WSP/Aurecon JV, our key areas of contribution included:

  • Analysis of data to evaluate and report utility related project risks,
  • Base data manipulation to enable effective clash detection,
  • Provide data management workflows to benefit site, office and client management teams through delivery.

Project issues:

  • 12kilometres of 2 way track from Westmead to Carlingford via Parramatta CBD
  • Local road adjustments and arterial road works
  • Commercial property development and existing local business within Parramatta CBD and Restaurant ‘Eat Street’ precincts
  • State security interests including NSW Police Headquarters and Parramatta Courts precincts
  • Public and private health interests including Westmead & Cumberland Hospitals
  • Known heritage & archaeological sensitivities
  • Project delivery timelines and construction sequencing
  • High-risk utility networks including high pressure gas, optic fibre, transmission electricity, Oil pipeline, Sydney Water Trunk main sewer
  • Congestion of underground networks within key construction areas
  • Community sensitivity around high density residential areas
  • Usability of base data within the 12d(CAD) utilities model
  • Unidentified utilities – both known from base data and unknown being the potential of more

How we we helped:

  • Gained thorough understanding of client requirements
  • Technical evaluation and reporting of base data provided from TfNSW
  • Standardisation of the utilities model with custom tools to enable accurate reporting for estimating and programming
  • Standardisation of the utilities model to enhance DJV usability for clash detection and design
